Danske Bank Premiership

The two remaining unbeaten sides in the Danske Bank Premiership meet today as Crusaders travel north to take on Coleraine. The Crues have only dropped points this season against Larne who they drew 2-2 with at Seaview last month and it looks like I may end up with egg on my face as after predicting Coleraine would drop out of the top half this season they have won three and drawn four of their opening seven league games, including an impressive 4-2 win away to champions Linfield. Depending on other results a win for Crusaders could see them sitting nine points clear at the top of the table and while it’s still early days in the campaign, I feel it’s always important to simply get the points on the board.

At the opposite end of the table Institute are still looking for their first win this season but earlier this week they did appoint Sean Connor as the clubs new manager following the departure of John Quigg a few days before the season started. Connor has a great deal of experience having coached, scouted or managed a number of teams in America, England, South Africa and Zimbabwe. He has also managed Sligo Rovers, where he won the First Division League title in 2005 and signed Seamus Coleman for the club, Bohemians, Dundalk and Galway United. Stute are by no means cut adrift and a few wins could see them begin to climb the table but they have played more games than most of the teams around them in the table so a good start is a must for Connor today. Connor doesn’t have an easy start as his new side make the long trip to Belfast to face off with fourth-placed Cliftonville.

Other teams in need of points urgently are Warrenpoint who have lost six out of six in the league and Glenavon who, after a 3rd place finish last season, have only picked up four points from a possible 18. Their starts to the season don’t look like improving on paper as tomorrow they play Ballymena and Glentoran respectively, with both those sides having strong starts to the season.

In our writers’ prediction league it is still Adrian who is leading the way and he has managed to extend his lead from three points to four after correctly guessing the outcome to four out of the six games being played last week. Rodney was our highest points scorer with five and Cameron scored a lowly two.

Here is the current leaderboard:-

1: Adrian29
2: Cameron24
3: Bryan/Rodney23
5: Darren22
6: Keith21

Having scored the lowest points last week Cameron is up first with his predictions, as usual, our writers will get three points for a correct result and a point for the correct outcome.
