This weekend’s Irish Cup fixtures meant that there was another quiet week around the leagues in Intermediate football.
Just six games took place, with East Belfast moving into top spot in the NAFL, a position they held for long periods of last season before being overtaken by Crumlin Star. They secured a 5-0 win over Derriaghy on the road at Seycon Park to go above 1st Bangor, level on points but with superior goal difference, having played two games less.
In Mid Ulster, Hanover kept up their solid start to the season with a 3-2 win over Tandragee Rovers. This moved them within a point of leaders Crewe United. AFC Richhill kept pace with the top two with an impressive 1-0 win over Windmill Star at Richhill Recreation Centre. Elsewhere, Bourneview Mill were the big winners of the day, romping to a 6-1 win over lowly AFC Silverwood.
In the BPIL it was a battle of the bottom two at Allen Park, where Chimney Corner hosted Ballynure OB. It was the home side who came out on top, though, as they secured a 3-0 win to put their first points on the board.
In the days remaining game, Champions Glebe Rangers moved within two points of St James Swifts and Bangor at the top of the table with a hard-fought 3-2 win over Cookstown RBL.
This weekend sees some regional cup action in the Steel & Sons and Bob Radcliffe cups, meaning another slightly quieter week, but on Saturday the NI Intermediate league kicks off in earnest, with reigning champions Magherafelt Sky Blues starting their defence with a trip to Newbuildings United.
