Intermediate Roundup

The BPIL was the main focus for this week’s Intermediate League action, and the top two continue their impressive starts to the season.

St. James Swifts have racked up 30 goals in their five games to date, albeit 13 of those in one game recently. This weekend they came up against a new look Wakehurst side and came away from Ballymena with a 3-0 victory to keep their noses slightly ahead of Bangor in these early stages. The Seasiders kept up their side of the bargain with a 4-2 victory at home to Coagh United, including goals for Irish League stalwarts Michael Halliday and Thomas Wray.

Reigning champions Glebe Rangers won 1-0 at home to Brantwood, Ian Christie grabbing the all-important winner to keep themselves in touch at the top. Their near neighbours Ballymoney United also kept up their impressive record since returning to the BPIL, seeing off Cookstown RBL 3-1. Meanwhile, Donegal Celtic got back to winning ways following last weeks heavy defeat to St.James as they welcomed Cookstown Youth to Celtic Park, coming out with a win by the odd goal in seven.

Elsewhere in the division, Dunloys early season struggles continued with a 4-0 defeat at Desertmartin, while 2nd bottom Chimney Corner also suffered a 4-0 defeat, theirs coming on the road at Newtowne. Ballynure got their first win of the season with a 3-1 victory away to Sofia Farmer.

There was only one game apiece in the NAFL and Mid Ulster Intermediate top flights, and in the NAFL, champions Crumlin Star travelled to Paisley Park and saw off Albert Foundry 4-0 to keep up their own perfect record at the top of the division.

In Mid Ulster, Banbridge Rangers got their campaign up and running with their first league win following three draws, as they got a 4-1 win over Ballymacash Rangers.
