Intermediate Roundup

Another exciting day in the intermediate leagues across the province, with 69 goals scored in 16 games across the four divisions.

Glebe Rangers grip on top spot in the Ballymena League tightened thanks to an impressive 3-0 win over derby rivals Ballymoney Utd at the Riada. Peter Kennoway, Jake Francis and David McWhirter scored the goals that earned the local bragging rights and allowed reigning champions Glebe to open a 13 point lead over St James Swifts, albeit having played five games more.

Elsewhere, Ballynure OB picked up a valuable three points in the basement battle with Cookstown RBL. The Nurenotched up a 5-2 win, spreading the goals out as well with Marc Campbell, Ricky Higgins, Stevie Howe, David Higgins and Jonny Robinson securing the three points.

There were two five-goal thrillers in Cookstown, both going in favour of the home side. Coagh United defeated Newtowne 3-2 at Hagan Park, while Cookstown Youth defeated Wakehurst by the same scoreline at Mid Ulster Sports Arena. In the final game of the day, Donegal Celtic & Brantwood shared the spoils in an entertaining 2-2 draw at Celtic Park.

Onto the NAFL now, where Immaculata moved three points clear of Shankill United at the summit, thanks to an impressive 2-1 win away at title rivals East Belfast. Elsewhere, Drumaness Mills were the big winners of the day, picking up a thumping 5-1 win on the road at Crumlin United. Crumlin remain in the bottom three, but the side immediately beneath them, Derriaghy CC, picked up an impressive win of their own seeing off Albert Foundry 2-0 at Seycon Park.

Ballynahinch picked up another win in their impressive maiden season in the top flight, this time securing a 1-0 win at the Drome versus Ards Rangers, inflicting the first defeat in three games on their hosts.

In Mid Ulster, leaders Hanover kept up their good form, Justin Bradley netting the only goal in a 1-0 win Laurelvale. Second place Moneyslane romped to an 8-0 win on the road at bottom side AFC Silverwood, Jonny Kernaghan netting four on a fine day for him.

Banbridge Rangers, meanwhile, kept up their good run of form with a 5-1 win over Bourneview Mill at Cheney Park, Stuart Mallen (2), Matthew Holloway, Josh Cahoon & Ally Wilson with the goals that lifted the hosts up to fourth place in the table.

Fivemiletown United romped to a 6-0 win at home to Valley Rangers, Glen Clarke’s hat-trick the highlight of the day for the hosts’ whos other goals came from Ricki Carroll, Dermot Gleeson & Davy Masterson. Elsewhere, AFC Richhills recent woes continued as their 3-0 home defeat to Ballymacash Rangers made it five without a win for the side who started the season in great form.

In the North West, reigning champions Magherafelt Sky Blues fell to their first defeat of the season, a heavy 4-0 home defeat to second place Newbuildings United. This meant the visitors moved within two points of the champions after six games apiece. In the final game of the day, Ardstraws poor form continued with a 3-2 defeat away to Trojans.
