Millwall, Blackpool, Cyprus & more – NI Internationals on the move

As the transfer window gets into full flow, a number of Northern Ireland Internationals have already signed the dotted line with a new club.

Daniel Ballard and George Saville will join forces at Millwall after both players agreed deals to move to The Den. Ballard joins on loan from Arsenal and is making the step up to the Championship after spending last season with Sky Bet League One Play-off winners Blackpool.

Saville is making his return to The Den after playing for them between 2017 and 2019, while also having a loan spell with the team in 2015. He moves from Middlesbrough who also play in the Championship.

Shane Ferguson is without a club after leaving Millwall and at the time of writing is yet to finalise a deal with a new club.

Kyle Lafferty added yet another new club to his career CV after joining Anorthosis Famagusta in Cyprus. He left Kilmarnock after their relegation from the Scottish Premiership. He was in fantastic form for Killie after scoring eight goals and nine games but left after apparently wanting to “quadruple his wages”.

Shane Lavery has made a huge step up in his career, moving to Blackpool who will now be playing in the Championship. He will be hoping to take his impressive form from Linfield across the water for him to fight for a starting role in the international set-up.

Stuart Dallas has been awarded for a fantastic season with a new three-year deal to keep him at Leeds United. He has been one of the most consistent players at Elland Road over the past few months and recently captained Northern Ireland in the absence of Steven Davis and Jonny Evans during the summer tour.

Paul Smyth has moved to Leyton Orient on a two-year deal after his contract at QPR expired. He will be playing in the Sky Bet League Two next season and if he can perform well he might do enough to get a move up the leagues, showing the potential we all saw at his time at Linfield.

Charlie Owens has signed a new contract with QPR to keep the midfielder at the Championship club for another season.

Alife McCalmont has joined Stephen Robinson’s Morecambe on loan after making 39 appearances and scoring 10 goals for Oldham on loan last season from Leeds United.

Matty Lund has joined Salford City on a one-year deal after an 18-month stint with Rochdale, the second of his career.

Rory McArdle has also joined Harrogate Town and he says that they are a “club on the up”.

There should be more movement from the Northern Ireland internationals over the next few weeks with the likes of Bailey Peacock-Farrell, Jordan Jones and Ethan Galbraith all potential moving clubs on loan
