We’ve had a quick turnaround this weekend as after five League of Ireland (LOI) SSE Airtricity Premier Division fixtures on Friday there’s a further four tonight and we’re here with our team of writers’ predictions for all four.
You can read all about Friday night’s matches by reading Keith O’Dwyer’s roundup elsewhere on the site today so we’ll not go into too much detail here but wins for Derry, Sligo, Bohemians and Shamrock Rovers and a draw between Cork and St. Pat’s means the SSE Airtricity League looks like this:-
Pos | Club | Pl | W | D | L | GF | GA | GD | PTS |
1 | Shamrock Rovers | 11 | 9 | 1 | 1 | 20 | 5 | 15 | 28 |
2 | Bohemians | 9 | 6 | 2 | 1 | 9 | 3 | 6 | 20 |
3 | Derry City FC | 9 | 5 | 2 | 2 | 14 | 9 | 5 | 17 |
4 | Dundalk | 9 | 4 | 3 | 2 | 12 | 6 | 6 | 15 |
5 | St. Patrick’s Athletic | 9 | 3 | 3 | 3 | 5 | 6 | -1 | 12 |
6 | Cork City | 9 | 3 | 2 | 4 | 10 | 12 | -2 | 11 |
7 | Waterford | 9 | 3 | 1 | 5 | 13 | 15 | -2 | 10 |
8 | Sligo Rovers | 9 | 3 | 1 | 5 | 7 | 13 | -6 | 10 |
9 | U.C.D. | 9 | 2 | 1 | 6 | 10 | 15 | -5 | 7 |
10 | Finn Harps FC | 11 | 0 | 2 | 9 | 7 | 23 | -16 | 2 |
The biggest point’s scorer on Friday night was Keith Fitzsimons who correctly backed a 1-1 draw between Cork and St. Pat’s and wins for Shamrock Rovers, Derry and Bohemians. These six points were enough to move Keith into top spot, level on points with Cameron who scored five points for Friday’s matches.
Of course, it’s still early days and with only ten points separating everyone on our leaderboard it can all change with one set of fixtures/predictions. The current standings can be seen below:-
1: Cameron/Keith F | 31 |
3: Rodney | 29 |
4: Darren | 27 |
5 Bryan/Liam | 26 |
7: Adrian/Keith O’D | 21 |
With Shamrock Rovers not playing tonight, Bohemians have a chance to close the gap with the first of two games in hand they have over the current leaders. Of course, they will not have things all their own way as they play defending champions Dundalk, who are hoping to recover after a disappointing start to the season so far that has left them languishing in fourth place.
Bottom side Finn Harps are also not taking to the field tonight so could find themselves eight points adrift of safety by their next match, that’s if UCD manage a win over Cork City.
The full list of fixtures tonight is below, all games kick off at 19:45:-
Dundalk v Bohemians
St. Patrick’s Athletic v Derry City
UCD v Cork City
Sligo Rovers v Waterford
