Intermediate Roundup

The games keep coming thick and fast in the race for the three remaining titles across the Intermediate leagues.

Bangor kept up their run of great form with another midweek doubleheader, coming out on top in both games to make it an incredible 15 wins in a row as they storm towards leaders, and reigning champions, Glebe Rangers.

On Tuesday night, they travelled to Mossley Park to take on Ballynure OB, and despite falling 1-0 and then 2-1 behind to the hosts, they fought back to win 4-2 thanks to goals from Scott McArthur, Ethan Boylan, Ben Arthurs and a fantastic strike from Ben Roy.

St James Swifts kept up their chase for the title as they welcomed Dunloy to Celtic Park and triumphed 2-1, goals coming from Sean Pat Donnelly & Padraig McCormack. Chimney Corner won 3-2 at home to Brantwood, while Wakehurst travelled to Coagh United and secured a 3-0 victory.

Thursday night saw Bangor on the road again, this time they went to Dunloy and eventually won 3-0, McArthur, Arthurs and Halliday securing the points. St James were also in action, this time securing a 5-0 win over Desertmartin. Ciaran Hyland, Dermy McVeigh, Padraig McCormack & a Martin McDonald brace securing a comfortable win.

Leaders Glebe fell to a defeat on the road at Brantwood, Mark Tweedie and an own goal meaning Bangor closed the gap to three points, while retaining their five games in hand on Glebe. The final game of a busy midweek in the BPIL saw Newtowne welcome Coagh United to Scroggy Road and it was another entertaining game, with the sides sharing the spoils following a 3-3 draw.

In the NAFL, Crumlin Star were in action on Tuesday night, travelling to Kilmore PF to take on Ballynahinch Olympic. The reigning champions eased to a 3-0 win thanks to goals from Ciaran Murphy and a Miguel Chines brace. East Belfast fell to defeat away at Islandmagee, losing out 1-0 at Wilbourne Park. Elsewhere Derriaghy lost 2-0 at the Drome to 1st Bangor OB, while Rathfriland romped to a 4-0 win at home to lowly Albert Foundry.

On Thursday night there was just one game taking place, and that saw Ballynahinch Olympic again play host to a title contender, as East Belfast travelled to Kilmore PF. The East came out on the right side of a 2-1 scoreline which keeps them in touch at the top.

In Mid Ulster, league leaders Hanover were not in action, but title rivals Banbridge Rangers fell to a 2-0 defeat away at Windmill Stars, a result which not only meant the hosts leapfrogged Rangers in the table, but finally put an end to Rangers chances of overtaking Hanover at the top. Crewe United are now the only side who can catch Stephen Hyndes men, but Hanover can make everything else irrelevant if they can secure full points in their final game, away at rock bottom AFC Silverwood on Saturday.
