The weather has caused havoc with the Danske Bank Premiership fixtures but for the first time in almost a month last weekend all six fixtures were able to go ahead.
The action got started on Friday night when the top two, Linfield and Larne respectively, met at Windsor Park. The champions, and league leaders, went into the game on the back of a frustrating spell which had seen them fail to win for three consecutive games, but a win would move them six points clear at the top and put some daylight between them and Tiernan Lynch’s side, a goal in each half from Shayne Lavery helped them do just that with Jeff Hughes pulling a goal back for the visitors late on.
Following Larne’s defeat on Friday, 3rd placed Crusaders went onto lose by a single goal against Glenavon the following day, Conor McCloskey with a late winner for Gary Hamilton’s side. This presented Coleraine with an opportunity to climb the table and a Curtis Allen brace helped them to a 2-1 win against Warrenpoint at The Coleraine Showgrounds, which in turn moved Oran Kearney’s side from 4th to 2nd spot.
Here are all the results from the weekend’s games: –
Linfield 2-1 Larne
Dungannon Swifts 0-1 Glentoran
Carrick Rangers 0-1 Cliftonville
Coleraine 2-1 Warrenpoint Town
Crusaders 0-1 Glenavon
Portadown 1-2 Ballymena United
