Danske Bank Premiership: Carrick hope to keep run going against Glenavon

The recent freezing conditions tampered with the Danske Bank Premiership again on Saturday as three games had to be postponed, with Glentoran v Coleraine, Ballymena v Linfield and Warrenpoint v Glenavon all now having to take place at a future date.

This presented Larne and Crusaders an opportunity to close the gap on Linfield and Tiernan Lynch’s side certainly take full advantage of that opportunity with goals from Mark Randall, a Douglas Wilson own goal and Marty Donnelly sealing a 3-0 win against Dungannon. After a poor start to 2021 this win makes it five games unbeaten for Larne, though three of those results have been draws, and moves them to within two points of top spot.

The threat of relegation being removed has certainly been a good thing for Carrick Rangers and they managed a shock 3-1 victory against Crusaders at Seaview. This makes it three games unbeaten for Niall Currie’s side and moves them off bottom spot and ahead of Dungannon on goal difference. The defeat for Stephen Baxter’s side leaves them eight points off top spot, there is still plenty of games to come though.

The final game played on Saturday was at Shamrock Park, where Portadown and Cliftonville played out a 1-1 draw. The draw did nothing for either teams league position and both will need to start turning some of their recent draws into wins if they want to improve on this.

Tonight there are four games due to take place, as always at this stage these are willing permitting, but the full fixture list is as follows with all games kicking off at 19:45 unless otherwise stated: –

Portadown v Glentoran (Tuesday 16th February at 19:30 – streamed on BBC Sport NI)
