Nathan Collins might return to Premier League

The Ireland International and Burnley centre-back Nathan Collins could be signed by a Premier League club this summer.

It is being reported that Ireland defender Nathan Collins is set for a swift return to Premier League football following Burnley’s relegation to the Championship. The 21-year-old Kildare man featured nineteen times for the Clarets in 2021/2022 and scored two goals.

He was also nominated for the Premier League Player of the Month award for April but could not prevent his side from finishing 18th despite his impressive displays. However, those displays did not go unnoticed, with more than one top tier side looking to secure his signature this summer.

There’s a race for the Irish defender

According to the reports from Ireland and England, Newcastle and Leeds are both interested in the Ireland international.

Newcastle would make Collins their latest big signing following their controversial Saudi takeover, while Leeds are on the lookout for defensive reinforcements in the wake of their minus 37 goal difference from last season.

Also, Collins could come at a low price, as Burnley reportedly needs to pay off a 65 million pound loan shortly and will therefore be open to any offers for players.

The Irishman had a poor final game of the season, but even at that, he showed his ballplaying skills and got himself a lovely assist.

He has shown that he is a solid defender, and at just 21 years of age, there will be a number of teams in for him.

Premier League teams should target him

Nathan Collins is one of the few young options that got a decent amount of playing time. Just 21, and in his first season in the Premier League, Collins finished high in Burnley’s stat leaders for shot blocks, clearances, and winning aerial duels. He isn’t the finished product yet but clearly could develop into a top-flight CB in due time.

The Irish has been linked to Manchester United before, arrived at Turf Moor with a vast reputation, having exceeded his years with mammoth performances and the odd appearance as captain for Stoke City.

Despite only just turning 21, the Irishman looked like a seasoned pro and was nominated for the recent Premier League Player of the Month award. He Will undoubtedly be linked with Europe’s best in the coming years and is an all-round defender Erik ten Hag should consider.

Nathan Collins has proved a more than able deputy, and while he may also have suitors after an impressive debut campaign, he’s under a lengthy contract, and it would take a sizeable offer for Burnley to consider parting with the Irishman.
